How to Install Sheetrock on a Ceiling

Gather Tools and Materials

Prepare the Ceiling

1. Remove any existing ceiling material, such as popcorn ceilings or acoustic tiles. 2. Check the ceiling joists to make sure they are level and evenly spaced. 3. If necessary, add blocking between the joists to support the drywall panels.

Install the Drywall

1. Determine the length of drywall needed for each row. 2. Cut the drywall to length using a utility knife. 3. Lift the drywall panel into place using a drywall lifting tool. 4. Screw the drywall into the ceiling joists every 12 inches along the edges and every 6 inches in the field.

Finishing the Drywall
